Description

The prize is the highest accolade presented by the Austrian Book Trade. Since 1990, the prize has been awarded to authors who show exceptional commitment in their literary or published work as well as tolerance for neighbours of diverse linguistic and cultural heritages, and who have therefore contributed to peaceful coexistence in Europe. The award is presented by the Association of the Austrian Book Trade.

*** BIOGRAPHIE ***

Eva Menasse
b. 1970. Writer and journalist. Her work is multi award-winning, including the Heinrich Böll Prize, Friedrich Hölderlin Prize, the Jonathan Swift Award, the Austrian Book Prize, the Bruno Kreisky Prize and Jakob Wasserman Prize. She is one of the co-founders of the writers’ association PEN Berlin and was elected as speaker from 2022 to 2024. Recently published: Saying Everything and Nothing. On the State of Debate in Digital Modernity, Kiepenheuer & Witsch 2023.

Ivan Krastev
b. 1965. Political scientist and political advisor. He is chairman of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia und Permanent Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, where he leads the research project “Democracy in Question”. Krastev was awarded the Jean Améry Prize for European Essay Writing in 2020.

The duo Camarero & Schuberth combines cello and accordion. They play jazz, classical and Nordic folk music as well as original compositions.
