Since 2015, the European Literature Days, under the artistic direction of author and profound connoisseur of contemporary European literature Walter Grond, have brought together international writers and literature enthusiasts in Krems an der Donau to discuss current topics and stimulate debate. Once a year, Krems an der Donau becomes a meeting place for European literature. Dialogues with international authors, book talks, readings, workshops, cultural and historical excursions as well as culinary and musical events are all part of an inspiring and varied festival program. At the end of the festival, the Honorary Award of the Austrian Book Trade for Tolerance in Thought and Action will be presented to the current winner.

Full programme 2026 is online
From 19 to 22 November 2026, the Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche will once again become an inspiring venue for engaging with contemporary European literature: a variety of discussion formats and readings, evening events and matinees, in which contemporary literature is placed in a sensory interplay with music (curated by Festival Glatt&Verkehrt) or with the visual arts.
To round off the event, the Austrian Booksellers’ Honorary Prize for Tolerance in Thought and Action will be awarded to Dacia Mariani. Featuring Robert Menasse, Ursula Poznanski, Aiki Mira, Jonathan Coe, Maja Haderlap, Eli Beneš, Eva Meijer, Miriam Davoudvandi, Anthony Passeron, Magdalena Schrefel, Dorota Masłowska and many more.
