Description
Jury verdict
The jury of the Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade presents David Grossman with the Honorary Prize of the Austrian Book Trade for Tolerance in Thought and Action and bestows the accolade on an author and public thinker whose collected works combine narrative eloquence and linguistic mastery with the spirit of the Enlightenment and of dialogue.
David Grossman’s literary work, translated into more than 30 languages, is characterized by a unique ability to put into words the afflictions and hopes of a crisis-torn region. He proves that through empathy, listening and the courage for reflection there are possible ways out of the spiral of conflict and hatred.
As a peace campaigner, for decades David Grossman has also been dedicated to a reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. He calls for a differentiated and sensitive handling of the personal fates of all those involved, regardless of background or political conviction. His voice, which advocates reconciliation and humanity, is listened to and admired around the world.
With the presentation of his award, we not only honour David Grossman’s literary work but also his resolute commitment for tolerance and understanding in a world marked by conflicts. His moral integrity and his unassailable faith in the power of literature make him a role model.
In cooperation with the Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade, the Festival Glatt&Verkehrt and the City of Krems, with an invitation afterwards to a glass of wine.
