Sergej Lebedew, born 1981, is a Russian writer. Lebedew’s newspaper as a contributing journalist was banned during the Ukrainian conflict. His novel Menschen im August/People in August was rejected by Russian publishers for a long time. The German edition was the world premiere; it became a bestseller in the US and was then published in 2016 in Russia.
In Russia, he was fighting a losing battle as an investigative journalist, so he became a writer. In his books, he follows up his country’s recent history as though he were a poisonous snake.
